Afternoon Grind: Neighborhood Branding and Reputation
The Center for Urban Research, the Office of the Mayor, and the Department of City Planning co-hosted two Afternoon Grind sessions, bringing together policymakers from various departments to understand the importance of neighborhood branding and reputation. The Emerald Necklace 2.0
The Trust for Public Land hosted a panel discussion at the Georgia Power Auditorium on the impact and future of the Atlanta BeltLine. The event marked 20 years since the BeltLine’s launch, reflecting on its success in fostering recreation, connectivity, and economic growth while addressing challenges of affordability and accessibility. Panelists, including former Mayor Shirley Franklin, developer Jim Irwin, and report author David Edwards, discussed findings from The Emerald Necklace 2.0, a new report examining the BeltLine’s accomplishments and the path forward.

Plant Vogtle Tour
The Center for Urban Research, in partnership with Southern Nuclear, organized a tour of Plant Vogtle, the largest nuclear power plant in the United States, located in Waynesboro, Georgia. The tour provided a unique opportunity to explore the new reactors—the first built in 30 years—and gain insight into sustainable green energy policies, industry, and engineering. Healthcare Initiatives Taskforce Convening
The Healthcare Initiatives Taskforce, under the leadership of John Haupert, the CEO of Grady Health System, is charged with developing actionable strategies to address the social determinants that drive the outcomes we care about in education, public safety, economic mobility, and health. A group of academics and practitioners convened to present their relevant research and related work.
